I use a guard to trim my goatee, then remove the guard to do my head.

Disadvantages I’ve discovered over the years:

I can’t use my Jammock because it sags and rubs the top of my head. It’s possible this rubbing would annoy me as much with hair, but I doubt it. (Really my seat lift is to blame here, but I’m never going back.)

Hair is a surprisingly useful defense against head injuries. You’ll miss that cushion eventually.

Can’t really think of a 3rd downside. Give me some time.

I wonder how many of us are sporting the look. I’ve been shaving my head for about 15 years. It’s fairly quick and easy to take care of in the shower as long as you don’t let it get too long between shaves.

You missed several disadvantages.

Sweat - on a hot day there’s nothing to keep the sweat from rolling right down into your face, often resulting with it getting into your eyes

Sunburn - A burned scalp HURTS. I learned this one the hard way. I end up reminding myself the hard way every few years.

Hats - You always have to have a hat handy, whether it’s hot or cold outside, you need to protect your scalp from something. Did I mention that getting sunburned HURTS?

Glare - Glare off your head from an overhead light can really screw up a video call. I had to deal with that one just yesterday.

Shaving supplies - while I use soap instead of cream, I still spend a lot more on shaving supplies than I did before I started shaving my head. It makes sense. I’m shaving over twice the area now.

Nice. Will you rock the shiny 'Mr. Clean' look?

I must say though, there’s no way that Google stock photo is the same before/after, the bald spot location clearly has plenty of stubble, on the after shot.

Also , make sure you have plenty of sunblock or a hat with you always.

I started shaving my head, in my case a number 1 on the electric hair shaver when I started going bald. It actually made me look less bald by cutting it so short.

I don’t go full hairless, just very short with the trimmer. It’s easy to do, low maintenance and saves a ton on actual haircuts. I just cut my hair once every 3-4 weeks.

That's a good point about the hat.  At a certain point the bald spot gets large enough that the only way you can go without hats is if you grow out your hair and do an embarrassingly massive comb over.  Better to just buzz it.

I rock the electric trimmer for my head shaving nee ds. Super fast and no consumables to run out of. I guess the downside is that you don’t get that super smooth look, more of a Jason Statham-esque head scruff

Mine is cut shorter than usual on the sides (1.5 guard) and a little shorter than normal on top (clippers cut). I still have to look professional on hosted webinars.

Not a bad summer cut, but I’ll be growing it out a bit more in the winter; my damn near bald spot on top does plenty of cooling and I’ll need it warmer.

I would like to add:

Rain - Similar to sweat, it rolls down immediately when there’s no hair to absorb it first. Of course a hat or umbrella can help with that...

Hitting your head - Even if you’re not clumsy, everybody hits their head once in a while. Do so while bald and you’re almost guaranteed to start bleeding right away. I think it’s mainly because hair acts as a “proximity sensor” and can give you a split-second to react.

Welcome to the dark side! Wear sunscreen.

Mine started falling out in my late twenties and it was mostly gone within 6 months. But I’m left with the sides and back, which sucks. I’d rather it all fell out. I keep it shaved all the time now.

What sucks is that I’ve had to get rid of the beard. I guess I could have tried to keep it, but it interferes too much with the mask. Shaving all of my facial hair made me look like an adult toddler, though, so I decided to grow a moustache for the first time. I feel weird with a moustache. My husband said I look like a cop . Really, though, I just look exactly like my dad looked 30 years ago. I don’t know how I feel about that.
